Farming challenge for Kudumbashree women in Ernakulam is reaping success. As the initiative to attain self-sufficiency in farming turns a month-old, the women have achieved their target by engaging in group farming.
Kudumbashree's micro enterprise units all over Kerala are producing face mask and sanitizers and are supplying it to various government departments, institutions as well as the general public as part of COVID 19 countering activities. Whereas Thiruvannathapuram district mission is gaining attention by producing faceshields that are very useful for health workers like doctors, nurses and other hospital staff who have to be in direct contact with the covid 19 patients during treatment.
Kudumbahsree is organizing various activities in the agricultural sector of the district, as the lock down notified in the country to contain the spread pf covid-19 pandemic is progressing in the country. The Pachakkari Vandi, eco friendly grow bag, micro green kitchen garden campaign and agriculture related competitions of Kudumbashree Thrissur District Mission is being a big hit in the district. Through Pachakari Vandi campaign the vegetable produced by the farming groups of Kudumbashree reach out to the public for sale. Kudumbashree women were also given training for making grow bags using 'paala' (arecanut leaf stalk). Also micro green kitchen garden campaign and agri related competitions in the name; Anubhavathile Krishi Manthrangal' is also being conducted for Kudumbashree members in the district.
Kudumbashree women in Alappuzha made it a point to contribute whatever little they have to the Chief Minister’s Disaster Relief Fund (CMDRF) to tide over the Covid 19 crisis. The Vellanad CDS amassed as much as Rs 2,03,300 to contribute towards the disaster mitigation efforts. The people have witnessed the onset of a huge deluge two times, in 2018 and 2019 respectively. Comprising of daily wage labourers, the women showed courageous attempts in the past by contributing towards the flood relief efforts too. Money gathered from the Ayalkkoottam workers were handed over as a cheque by CDS chairperson Remya Santhosh along with Gramapanchayat president M.P. Sajeev to District Panchayat President G. Venugopal.
Kudumbashree is giving full support to all the activities, both the central as well as the State governments are doing to counter the COVID-19 epidemic. Kudumbashree have started its effort to counter this virus spread from the second week of March itself by using the available infrastructure and amenities. Other than this Kudumbashree is formulating new ideas and implementing new projects according to the state government's directions soon after the lockdown came into effect.
Attappady Bala Vibhava Kendram organises various programmes through the facebook page to make the lock down period enjoyable for the children from tribal community as the lock down notified in the country to contain the spread of the corona virus disease is progressing. The programme named 'Aattom Paatum' is presented through the facebook page of Bala Vibhava Kendram as facebook live to make use of the lock down period in a creative way. The artists from Balasabha, Balagothra Sabha and the talents from art-social fraternity presents various programmes. The programme is organised under the leadership of Bala Vibhava Kendram, Attappady Comprehensive Tribal Development and Particularly Vulnerable Tribal Group Development Project, Kudumbashree Mission, Attappady. The Programme was started on 13 April 2020.
Adukkalathottam Challenge alias Kitchen Garden Challange is a novel concept for Kudumbashree women in Idukki district to stay engaged during lockdown days. It aims growing sufficient vegetables for the use of a family from their household itself. On a broader sense, it helps them inculcate healthy thoughts and find enjoyment from the smaller confines. Promoting healthy eating habits is a major goal. Surplus produce can be sold, which in turn can be a source of income for these women.
Kudumbashree Kozhikode District Mission's Agri challenge commences today (April 22). The aim of the challenge is to increase immunity through healthy eating habits by having organic vegetables and to give happiness to NHG members who are under lock down due to covid 19. The challenge named as Arogya Keralam- Janadhipathya Kudumbam- Visharahitha Bhakshanam' includes two part, one is Organic farming (vegetable challenge) and the other is Cookery competition (Micro green cookery show). Onlilne facilities are bieng used to conduct the competition. A total of 363 members registered for vegetable challenge and 312 members registered for micro green cookery show.
As the lock down notified in the country to contain the spread of the corona virus pandemic, Kudumbashree units from Kasaragod hosts the lorry drivers who comes to Kerala crossing the borders with essential goods. The Kudumbashree units receives the lorry drivers at Thalappady, near the Karnataka border and Kalikadavu, near the Kannur border. They serve breakfast lunch including meals or biriyani and dinner including chappathi and vegetable curry. These are served at reasonable rates to them. Kudumbashree is engaged in this activity associating with Kasaragod District Administration.
Covid times have proven good for the group farming initiatives of Kudumbashree women in Pathanamthitta. Opening a competition named ‘Ente Krishi, Ente Arogyam, Oppam Ningaludeyum’, it is attempting to bring back every Ayalkkoottam member back to grow farm produce on their own. Ultimate aim is to develop self-reliant households growing organic crops. By spreading hope during testing times, the campaign intends filling every backyard with fully-grown veggies.
