Eloor is a suburb of Kochi and a municipality in Paravur Taluk, Ernakulam District in the Indian state of Kerala, India. It is an industrial area situated around 13 kilometres (8.1 miles) north of the city centre. It is an island of 14.21 km² formed between two distributaries of river Periyar and is the largest industrial belt in Kerala.The Neighbouring Places of Eloor are Kalamassery industrial hub, Aluva, Cheranalloor and Paravur.

There are more than 200 industries of different kinds, e.g. Fertilisers and Chemicals Travancore (FACT), Indian Rare Earths Limited, Hindustan Insecticides Limited and many others manufacturing a range of products like chemical-petrochemical products, rare-earth elements, rubber-processing chemicals, fertilizers, zinc/chromium compounds and leather products.

Formarly Eloor was a Panchayath. Later both Varapuzha and Eloor were bifurcated and Eloor became a seperate muncipality in 1990, chaired by Sri.Payyapally Balan. Later Eloor was merged with Varapuzha Panchayath. Again Eloor became muncipality w.e.f 1st November 2010, the first council chaired by Smt.Lissie George, followed by Sri Joseph Antony, Sri P M Ayub and Smt.Siji Babu. Later vide G.O Rt.No 135/2014/LSGD dated 22/07/2014 it was upgraded as a second grade muncipality. There are 31 wards in the muncipality.

 

Population

The Eloor Census Town has population of 31,468 of which 15,557 are males while 15,911 are females as per report released by Census India 2011.
