Thrikkakkara is a suburb of the city of Kochi, as well as a municipality in Ernakulam District in the state of Kerala, located in at a distance of about 11.5 kms from the city of Kochi. Thrikkakara was a Panchayat established in the year 1953. On 30th November 2010 it was upgraded to the status of a municipality.

Kakkanad, which is the administrative headquarters of the District of Ernakulam, is situated in the Municipality. It is home for a part of the industrial base of Kochi and also home for the Cochin Special Economic Zone (CSEZ), Info Park and Smart City. There are various other commercial and industrial establishments located in the municipal area and its close proximity.

The facet of Thrikkakara changed a lot in the last decade owing to the developments. 

Demographic Details

There are 43 wards in Thrikkakara Municipality and has a population of 71,319. Density of population is 1820 per sqkm.  Thrikkakara has an average literacy rate of 93.75%. There are 4643 BPL families In Thrikkakara, 6936 is the SC population.

The town presents a wide range of activities in various Institutional, Commercial, Hospitality and Tourism sectors. Growth in such activities, possibilities of absorption in various service sectors, scope of employment in trade and business activities and retailing etc. have attracted rural poor to the town.

Housing Profile

Since the transformation of the Panchayat into a Municipality, Thrikkakara has tried to resolve the  growing demand of the population with respect to housing, employment  and shelter through various State /Centrally Sponsored programmes, but still the demand for housing  is mounting  every year.

Survey have been undertaken in various schemes of Municipality to find the landless and houseless population like EMS housing scheme survey, PMAY Survey, LIFE Survey, Sparsham Campaign etc.

As per EMS housing survey in the year 2010 there was 1607 houseless in the city. Through EMS housing scheme and BSUP project implemented during the following years 103 families were provided housing assistance. And through Janakeeyasoothranam schemes the ULB has been able to provide house to 328 families in the last 5 years .

 But still there is demand for housing in the municipal area and is being addressed through PMAY-LIFE.
