The private money lenders used to exploit the illiterate common women financially and they were mentally tortured severely as well. The concept of Muttathe Mulla was evolved as a solution to resolve this issue and thereby to put an end to this situation. The idea itself revolutionized the whole scenario of the private money lending system. The idea was piloted in Palakkad at first and was scaled up all across the state. Let us see how this programme worked out and how the District Mission of Palakkad made it happen.

Only when all the people get their justice and their rights served devoid of their gender and social differences, we could say that a society is acting as an ideal one. Inclusivity is that notion that binds it all together. If any social being would be deprived of their rights, we would not be able to call it an ideal society. Kudumbashree, since its inception had been trying to address all the social issues existing in the society. Kudumbashree mainly focused on the women from the financially backward families and by empowering them and help them find a livelihood of their own, Kudumbashree played a key role in bringing in changes in as many families in the state.

Elderly Neighbourhood Groups - Pakalveedu Convergence
Updated On 2020-01-31
As per the 2011 Census Data, 12.8% of people are above 60 years of age. By 2030, the percentage of the elderly people would cross 20%. That means, one fifth of the population of Kerala would constitute elderly people. The vanished joint family setup, drift towards modern nuclear families, urbanisation, and mass migration of youngsters for jobs and education have left many elders lonely and isolated.Elder people are highly vulnerable to loneliness and social isolation and it could even affect them very adversely during their old age and it is on identifying the same and it was for addressing the issue of social isolation, Kudumbashree put forward the idea of Elderly NHGs. Pakalveedu is yet another concept of the Government of Kerala which stands for the welfare of the lonely elder people, where they can spend their lonely time with other elderly people. The respective Local Self Government Institutions would be in charge of the Pakalveed in every Panchayath. The district mission of Thrissur thought of converging both these concepts and tried to make maximum out of it. Let us see how these concepts were merged together for the welfare of the elderly people in the district of Thrissur.
