Kudumbashree is to supply banana chips and sarkaravaratti (jaggery coated banana chips) to the onam kit of Supplyco. Kudumbashree has received the order worth Rs. 12.89 crores from Supplyco for supplying the same. As per the contract, Kudumbashree would supply 42,63,341 packets of banana chips and sarkaravaratti.

 

The entrepreneurs will get Rs. 30.24 inclusive of GST per 100 gm packet. The products are manufactured and distributed through more than 300 Kudumbashree units in the state. Kudumbashree aims to complete the supply of products as per the quantity mentioned in the contract by 20 August 2022.


The activities related to delivery of the products prepared by the Kudumbashree units to the 56 depots of Supplyco is progressing. Kudumbashree District Missions have been instructed to efficiently co-ordinate and carry out activities including production and distribution of products. The procurement of banana has been ramped up for preparing the products as per the requirement of Supplyco. This is procured from over two and a half lakh Kudumbashree JLGs (Joint Liability Groups) in the state and from the public market. Supplyco will pay directly to the entrepreneur's account as soon as the products are delivered to the depot.

 

Kudumbashree had supplied products to Supplyco for including in the Onam Kit last year as well. An order for supplying 41.17 lakh packets of banana chips and sarkaravaratti was received then. The entrepreneurs had made a sales of Rs. 11.99 crores, in which 273 Kudumbashree units participated.

Shri. Jafar Malik IAS takes charge as the new Executive Director of Kudumbashree Updated On 2022-08-04

Shri. Jafar Malik IAS took charge as the new Executive Director of Kudumbashree on 4 August 2022. He was the District Collector of Ernakulam district. He is appointed after the expiry of the intra-cadre deputation period of Smt. P.I Sreevidya, the then Executive Director of Kudumbashree. Currently he is the Director of State Information and Public Relations Department, Government of Kerala and now he is given the full additional charge of Kudumbashree.


He is a 2013 batch IAS officer. Earlier, he has served as the District Collector of Malappuram, Managing Director of Roads and Bridges Development Corporation Kerala Limited, Chief Executive Officer of Cochin Smart Mission Limited, Chief Executive Officer of Kochi Metropolitan Transport Authority, Director of Social Justice Department and Additional Director General of Kerala Tourism Department. He is a native of Rajasthan.

75th Anniversary Celebrations of Indian Independence : Kudumbashree to manufacture 50 lakh National Flags Updated On 2022-08-02

Kudumbashree is to manufacture 50 lakh National Flags as part of the 75th Anniversary Celebrations of Indian Independence. In connection with the 75th Independence Day celebrations, the national flag will be hoisted at all homes, educational institutions and governmental semi-governmental institutions in the state from 13 to15 August 2022. Kudumbashree is making and distributing fifty lakh national flags required for this purpose. As per this, around 4000 Kudumbashree members from about 700 sewing units under Kudumbashree have started manufacturing the national flags. The arrangements for manufacturing 28 lakh flags have been completed until now.

 

As per the National Flag Code, the flag is made in the legal aspect ratio of 3:2. The National Flags are made in seven different sizes. The price of the flag ranges from Rs. 20 to Rs. 120. The number of flags required for the schools will be communicated by the school authorities to the local bodies. The respective local bodies will communicate the number of flags required by the schools and the number of flags required for the houses where there are no school going students to the respective Kudumbashree District Mission Coordinators. As soon as the manufacturing is completed, Kudumbashree will handover the flags to the local bodies. Kudumbashree officials of all districts, office bearers of Kudumbashree three tier system and unit members will become part of this programme. Respective Kudumbashree District Mission Co-ordinators are responsible for co-ordinating the related activities in the respective districts. If required, additional units will be included in the programme. Also, the national flag will be hoisted at the houses of 45 lakh Kudumbashree members in the state. This will be ensured through the respective CDSs.

 

The hoisting of the flag is a part of the 'Har Ghar Tiranga' Campaign implemented by the Government of India with the aim of giving respect to the national flag in connection with the 'Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav' Programme which is being held as a part of the 75th Anniversary of Indian Independence, and to instill an emotional connection with the national flag and to inspire national integration.

M.V. Govindan Master interacts with the newly inducted Kudumbashree CDS Chairpersons during 'Chuvad 2022' Training Programme Updated On 2022-08-02

M.V. Govindan Master, Minister, Local Self Government Department and Excise Department, Government of Kerala interacted with the newly inducted Kudumbashree CDS Chairpersons during 'Chuvad 22', the five day State Level Training Programme being held at Mar Gregorius Renewal Centre, Nalanchira, Thiruvananthapuram on 01 August 2022. He said that women must obtain the inner strength to overcome male supremacy to acquire social recognition and rights. He also added that Kudumbashree members need constant reformation to create comprehensive and penetrating changes in the society.


Along with women empowerment activities, it is necessary to identify the needs of the society. It should be continuously updated with the help of science and technology to benefit the entire human society. The Government is trying to create a new economy by creating a knowledge-based society. The efforts to provide employment to 20 lakh people in the next five years by joining forces with K-DISC, is part of that. Most of the beneficiaries will be women. The Minister said.

 

It should be able to produce quality products so as to establish a presence in the world market along with creating better employment opportunities. These operations should be modified to suit the global market, including attractive packaging, labeling and branding. Products with local characteristics can be brought into this range. Through the five-day training each CDS member should be able to become a physical force capable of creating tangible change in the community by linking ideas with other NHG members. The Minister added.

 

Responding to the questions raised by the Chairpersons on behalf of various CDSs, the minister wished them to proceed powerfully by adding the newly formed Kudumbashree Auxiliary Groups. Smt. Asha Varghese, Director, Kudumbashree welcomed the gathering and Dr. Myna Umaiban, Public Relations Officer, Kudumbashree extended the vote of thanks.

 

'Chuvad 2022' is a five-day long residential training for 1070 CDS Chairpersons in Kerala. The training is being held in seven batches. The training of the first batch is going on now. 150 selected people from all districts are participating in the training. The training programme aims at creating a sense of purpose among the CDS Chairpersons on how they should intervene in their day to day responsibilities and administration. The training of the first batch will come to an end on 02 August 2022. The training for the next batch will begin on 04 August 2022.

'Chuvad 2022' : Training Programme for Kudumbashree CDS Chairpersons begins Updated On 2022-07-30

'Chuvad 2022', the five day training programme for newly inducted Kudumbashree CDS Chairpersons began at Mar Gregorius Renewal Centre, Nalanchira, Thiruvananthapuram on 29 July 2022. Smt. Sreevidya IAS, Executive Director, Kudumbashree inaugurated the training programme and delivered the keynote address. 

150 CDS chairpersons from 14 districts of the state are participating in the first batch training. This residential training is being organized in seven batches. 1070 CDS Chairpersons in the state will get trained through the training programme. 'Chuvad 2022' Training is led by 30 members of the Kudumbashree Training Team. The training of all seven batches will be completed by 5 September 2022.

Sreekantan, Camp Co-ordinator, KILA, Shri. Kudumbashree NHG members from Kannur launches a distribution network to strengthen the marketing of Kudumbashree products Updated On 2022-07-29

Kudumbashree NHG members from Kannur has launched a distribution network to strengthen the marketing of Kudumbashree products. This marketing team is called as 'She Distribution Network' and it has the objective of providing regular distribution of Kudumbashree products to all the marketing centres including super markets in the government and private sectors of Kannur district. Mr. Binoy Kurian, Vice President, District Panchayath inaugurated the 'She Distribution Network' in a function held at Keezhathur, Kannur on 19 July 2022.

 

Ms. Prasilla. P (President), Ms. Divya. K (Secretary) Ms. Vichithra. V, Ms. Vinci. V, Ms. Rajitha. C and Ms. Dhanya P. K from Ward 16 of Vengad CDS are members of the 'She Distribution Network' team. Their activities will be concentrated in Edakkad, Thalassery, Kuthuparamba, Panoor, Peravoor and Iritty blocks.

 

The District Panchayath has provided the vehicle facility for the 'She Distribution Network' team to collect the products from the entrepreneurs and bring them to the marketing centers and the ward ADS has provided the building for the storage centre. They will also distribute the products to Home Shop owners who deliver Kudumbashree products to households. This activity, which is being conducted in Kannur district for the first time in the state on an experimental basis, will be extended to other districts as well, depending on its success.

Kudumbashree Kasaragod District Mission team sets a new model through 'KANI' Updated On 2022-07-27

Kudumbashree Kasaragod District Mission team is creating a silent revolution in the agriculture sector of Kasaragod district by cultivating vegetables and fruits as well as medicinal herbs and spices using hi-tech farming methods, through an innovative project called KANI (Kudumbashree for Agriculture New Intervention). The aim of KANI Project is to ensure the availability of non-toxic fruits, vegetables, medicinal plants and spices in Kasaragod district through hi-tech farming and thereby improve the livelihood of Kudumbashree members. It will also generate income by promoting farm tourism.

 

There are three sub projects under KANI Project namely, Vegetable Walk, Fruit Garden and Medicinal Herb-Spices Garden. The farming is done at the CDS level through Kudumbashree farming groups. KANI Project was started in Kasaragod district in 2021. The Vegetable Walk was organized then in a competitive manner with specific conditions. During the first year, focus was mainly on vegetable cultivation, whereas, fruits, medicinal herbs and spices are included in the project, this time.

 

As part of the Vegetable Walk, the cultivation is done as a single plot (minimum one crop per acre) on 3 to 15 acres of land. Cultivation will be done on at least one acre as part of Fruit Garden and on at least 50 cents as part of Medicinal Herb-Spices Garden. By March 2023, Model Farming Areas will also be established in these three areas as part of the project.

 

23 CDSs did cultivation as part of the Vegetable Walk and achieved a sales of Rs. 8.26 crore during the financial year 2021-22. Presently 9 CDSs are part of Fruit Garden and 15 CDS are part of Medicinal Herb-Spices Garden. A profit of Rs. 25 lakhs has been made during the last Ramzan season by cultivating 128 tons of watermelons on 25 acres as part of the Fruit Garden. Many crops like dragon fruit, rambutan, potato, sweet basil, aloe vera and cloves are being cultivated as part of the project. Kudumbashree Kasaragod District Mission team has indeed set a new model through 'KANI' Project.

Kudumbashree NHG member Shylamma's 'Heaven' Hair Saloon has become the talk of the town. It is common for women to run hair salons and beauty parlors for women. But Shylamma has become a star by providing hairstyles and haircuts for men including trendy styles for the youth.

 

The 'Heaven' Hair Salon is started in Kainakary Panchayath of Champakulam block in Alappuzha district of Kerala. Shylamma started her enterprise as part of the of the Rebuild Kerala Initiative Entrepreneurship Development Programme. Shylamma who is working as an Anganawadi helper had completed Beautician Course. So when she got to know about the opportunity to start an enterprise through Kudumbashree's RKIEDP scheme, she didn't had to think twice about what it should be. So on 20 March 2022, Shylamma started her salon next to her own house at Cherukayalchira in Kuttamangalam of Kainakary.

 

Taking YouTube as her guru and adopting the latest hairstyle trends, Shylamma now offers bridal care, nail art, facials and massage treatments etc. through her enterprise.

Nanchiyamma, who bagged the title of the Best Female Playback Singer in the 68th National Film Awards has indeed elevated Kudumbashree to greater heights! Nanchiyamma is the member of Kavinaya NHG and the health volunteer of Nakupathipiriv Ooru Samithi of Attappady. Nanchiyamma won the National Award for the song- 'Kalakatha Sandana Meram' of the film 'Ayyappanum Koshiyum', which is full of tribal rhythms.

Kudumbashree & Local Self Government Institutions should work in tandem to strengthen the Local Financial Social Development and to deliver the rights and benefits to the poorest of the poor, said Shri. S.M. Vijayanand IAS (Rtd), Former Chief Secretary, Government of Kerala. He inaugurated the webinar 'Kudumbashree and Local Self-Government Institutions' organized under the auspices of Kudumbashree on the occasion of the 25th anniversary of People's Planning Campaign, on 22 July 2022.

 

"In the Kudumbashree system, priority is given to the poor. It is necessary to find them and bring them to the mainstream of society by providing them with all the rights and benefits they deserve and reduce the gap with others. The health-education- income generation activity volunteers in the NHGs should be strengthened and their participation should be ensured in the design of the Action Plan of local bodies. The participation of Kudumbashree in health, education, agriculture and employment sectors could be increased partnering with local institutions and the protection of the elderly can be ensured by creating such associations. Implementation of women component projects is also important. The quality of Employment Guarantee Scheme should be increased and the emphasis should be give to the creation of sustainable assets. The greatest strength and achievement of Kudumbashree is the acceptance it has received at the national and international levels. Social, financial and physical capital are essential elements to strengthen this three-tier system. Human resource is yet another capital. Along with this, environmental awareness and civic awareness should also be maintained." He also added that by strengthening the power of local bodies and Kudumbashree, they should advance more strongly in the process of local economic and social development.
