Kasaragod is situated at the extreme northern tip of Kerala over looking Arabian sea. The district was formed on May 24, 1984. The district is divided into 4 Taluks for administrative purpose. It has 38 grama panchayats and Three Urban local bodies. Kasaragod district has the head quarter at Kasaragod. The district is rich in folk - culture and festival. Houses as many as 7 different languages(excluding dialects and tribal languages), with each spoken by a substantial number of people. There are 12 rivers in the district and most of the people are farmers.
Kudmbashree plays vital role in the overall development of the district. With the support of LSGDs Kudumbashree formulate and roll out various programmes in: Micro finance, Micro Enterprise, Agriculture, Animal Husbandry, Tribal, Balasabha, Buds,DFK/Asraya and DDU- GKY etc with the aim of Economic, Social and Women empowerment. Kudumbashree is the nodal agency for centrally sponsored programmes like PMAY and NULM. All these programmes run through the community network.
Besides these Kudumbashree Mission Kasaragod initiates various peculiar programmes like 'Mazhappolima' which aims to understand the importance of fallow less cultivation and 'Snehitha Calling Bell' to address the issues of elderly people and women who are staying alone.
