History

Thalassery is a commercial town on the Malabar coast in Kannur district, in the state of Kerala.It is bordered by districts of Mahi,Kozhikkode and Kodak(Karnataka). It is largest populated Municipality of north malabar.Thlassery Municipality was formed on 1st november 1866 according to the Madras act 10 of 1865 of the British Indian empire making it the second oldest minicipality of the state.At that time the municipality was known as Thalassery commission and it was the capital of north malabar.Europian barrister A.F.Lamaral,became the first chairman of Thalassery municipality.Current chairman of Thalassery municipality is Sri. C.K.Rameshan.

      Thalassery has played a significant historical,cultural,educational and commercial role in the history of India.  

Population

As of 2011 of Indian census Thalassery had a population of 92558 making it Kerala's 8th largest city in population.Male constitute of 47%and female constitute of 53% of the population.Thalassery has the average literacy rate of 97.17% heigher than the National average of 59%.Thalassery ,10% of the population is under 6 years of age.
