North Paravur Municipality was constituted in 1921 in Thrissur District. On April 1st 1958,when Ernakulam district was formed ,Paravur got separated from Thrissur District and included in Ernakulam district.North Paravur town has an area of 9.02 sqkms and populationof 30059 persons as per 2001 Census.There are 29 wards in the Municipality.North Paravur is the head quarter of Paravur Taluk.The town is part of Paravur and Kalamassery Assembly Constituencies. Paravur assembly constituency is a part of Ernakulam Loksabha constituency.No major agricultural activities are present inside the urban limits ,and there are no industrial developments.The town is mainly service based and major economic activity is commercial.Even though North Paravur is basically residential Municipal Town,this town serves as a feeder town to the surrounding Panchayats viz Chittattukara,Chendamangalam,Kottuvally,Ezhikkara,Pallippuram.North Paravur town is a part of Kochi Urban Agglomeration.
