History

Chittoor is a small town on the banks of Chittoor river in Palakkad district of Kerala. Chittoor is about 15 km south of Palakkad town. There are many paddy fields and coconut groves here. Alathur is Lok Sabha constituency. William Logan, former English collector of Chittoor, spoke about the beauty of Chittoor. The Konkan Yatra is associated with the festival of Chittoor Bhagavathi Temple. The festival is celebrated every year at Kumbha masam,

The Sokanashini river flows through Chittur, and it is on the banks of this river that Thunjathu Ramanujan Ezuthachan, the father of Malayalam language, spent his last days. His final resting place is famous for Vidyarambham celebrations, where young children are initiated into the world of words and knowledge.
