Kudumbashree started women collective farming as an income generation activity as well as to provide safe and nutri food to the society. For achieving this goal Kudumbashree started joint liability groups of women farmers. Presently Kudumbashree facilitates 60,000 joint liability groups in the state. Paddy, vegetables, banana and tubers are the major crops cultivated through these joint liability groups. Approximately 53000 ha of land is put under cultivation by these groups. Incentives, subsidies to bank loan interest, trainings and other hand holding supports are extended to these groups as means to encourage livelihood promotion.

Intensive Banana Cultivation Updated On 2018-02-21

Kudumbashree, the programme implementing agency (PIA) of Mahila Kisan Sasaktheekaran Pariyojana (MKSP) for Kerala, has undertaken the project through the institution of Joint Liability Group (JLG) of women farmers. The crops under cultivation by 60000 joint liability groups of Kudumbashree in 55000 hectors of land include paddy, banana, vegetables and tubers. During the Onam season of 2017 banana was grown in 3000 ha aiming the festive sales. The market analysis indicated extreme demand versus low production. In view of the analysed trend the mission contemplated intensive banana cultivation for the coming peak period of 2018. Synchronising the harvest in accordance, 10031 JLGs were engaged in 5260.17 hectors of land. The project envisages ample supply of banana to cater to the needs of the common in peak requirement period and also setting a standard tool of measure to guard the price hike. Here the term intensive does not indicate high density planting, but only expansion of area for increased production.

It is revival of the earlier practice of the community’s practice of eating food together. It has helped improve the nutrition status of the community and enhanced solidarity. This has enabled the community especially women to come together to discuss their social issues. It started in 2013 and was managed by social welfare department and in 2014, the management was shifted to Kudumbashree mission.

Attappady Block has 192 hamlets and lots of students with high knowledge and capabilities were dropout from various classes with lots of reason to overcome this scenario CTDP Kudumbashree Mission, started Bridge School on September 2015.Bridge school is an attempt to integrate drop-out children into mainstream education. Due to lack of inclusiveness in the school environment, attitude and behaviour of teachers, absenteeism, social issues faced by children, the children tend to drop-out and retention becomes extremely difficult. Bridge school provides residential facilities to children who have been pushed out of education. It is an endeavour to extend academic inputs to the children. It began in the camp mode to attract children to learning.

In 2003, the Government of Kerala introduced a new project through the State Poverty Eradication Mission (Kudumbashree), catering to these unreachable poorest of poor, called Asraya. At present, the Asraya project which had seen many phases is being restructured into a more comprehensive one time program called Agathirahithakeralam (Destitute Free Kerala). The inception of Agathirahithakeralam Project was on 19th October 2018. It is equipped with better technology in beneficiary identification (via mobile app) and project preparation rendering the project more cost effective and timely. The criteria of destitute identification in the Project are tailored according to the socio economic structure of Kerala.

Gender sensitization refers to the modification of behavior by raising awareness of gender equality concerns. It helps people in examining their personal attitudes and beliefs and questioning the realities of both sexes. It helps them determine which assumptions in matters of gender are valid and which are stereotyped generalizations the need of gender sensitization is to create awareness among the working professionals about the importance of gender sensitivity in organization. The need for this sensitivity has been felt and realized by mission and two days training work shop was conducted for 8 batches. Gender sensitization training has been given to more than 350 Kudumbashree staff, including DPM, Block coordinators and state mission staff. For the grass root level gender intervention gender sensitization will be given to the community leaders as well.
