Background:
I am Anju K P, from Enammakkal, Venkidangu, Thrissur. My life was only with struggles and sorrows. My family consist of my father, mother, two younger sisters and me. Anju, Manju and Chinju our names were rhythmic but our life was not. My father is a centring worker and my mother is a house maid. My father is a drunkard. He didn’t spend any money for us. He not only spoiled his money but also tortured us very much. We were very much fed up with our life.
We decided to build our own house with the help of our GramaPanchayath. But my father spoiled all our dreams. He received that money and spends half of it for liquor. Finally he built something called house for us. We can’t live in that house during the rains. My father was not fully in sense all the time. As we four ladies were insecure in that house our neighbour allowed us to reside in his farm house.
On all this troubles three of us completed our plus two. I was very much fond of kids and teaching them. So I studied NTTC and worked for five months at Venkitangu L P School. My sister Manju joined at a medical lab as trainee. Chinju and I was giving home tuition for our neighbouringchildren for our earnings. But we were not stable in our earnings. Our big dream was a small house. That was not possible from our earnings.
My mother was an active member of Kudumbasree. She came to know about the DDUGKY project through the Kudumbasree personals. We decided to accord my sister Chinju for that course. Our kudumbasree personals directed us to Mega Industries Kunnamkulam. We met there Linesh sir, the centre head, he gave us all the details about the project. At that moment I decided to join the course with my sister. Our attraction was the good job which they offered at the end of the project.
Block co-ordinator Shafeeq Sir interviewed us and removed all our confusions. He had told us to call him if we have any difficulties during the training. We joined for the trade Sales person (Retail). Our teachers were awesome. They were persons with full of knowledge about their subject and love. Domain subject was handled by Linesh sir, Raji miss for English and Soft skills and Biya miss for computer application.
Our classes were very interesting. I have never attended such classes before. That was not like a class room. In the middle of our project we all were presented for interviews in various firms. In the first four interviews I was not selected by the employers. I feel very bad and disappointed. But my teachers supported me. They send me for an interview at Pantaloons Sobha City Mall, Sobha City, Thrissur. It was an auspicious day in my life. They selected me. On 28 June 2016 I joined at Pantaloons as salesman trainee with a salary of Rs. 8000.
Our house, which my father had built for us earlier tumbled down in a heavy rain. We know it is impermanent to stay at our neighbour’s farm house. My sister got a job at Kalyan silks as salesman trainee. We together decided to build a new house. We got some help from social workers. We reserved all our incomes together avoiding our extra expenses. We didn’t have taken any new dresses on that period.
At the end of the last year we together build a small house for us. It was a speechless day for us. We cried with joy. People who were speaking badly about us now consider us as role models. I bought a good phone for me and my sister Manju.
It was all because of the moment when I decided to join DDUGKY. The project has changed my lifestyle also. Now I feel that I am living. I have small happiness in life. A marriage life was not even in my dreams. But now it’s very glad to inform you that I am getting married. I am still working at pantaloons with a salary of Rs.12000.
Thanking is not just a formality for me. It is from the bottom of my heart I thank you all on behalf of my family. Thank you to my teachers and all persons who were included in DDU-GKY project. Thank you very much.
