The Samrudhi project is to improve the business performance of the kudumbashree
micro enterprises in Kerala, with a special emphasis on the Tsunami affected
areas. The project will help the enterprises to access effective business
development and counseling services in order to improve business performance,
increase all round business skills and enhance the enterprises ability to
analyse and manage their own business problems
The services to the Micro enterprises will be achieved through the Micro
enterprise consultants (MEC). The MEC are educated unemployed youth from the
community who are trained in the various aspects of the enterprise development.
The project will enable the formation of a team of MECs capable of delivering
high quality, effective development support and counseling skills for the
kudumbashree enterprises. It is planned to develop 55 MECs as a part of the
programme. The initial phase will include training of 15 MECs for the core team
that will include 5 members from the kudumbashree mission. The 55 trained MECs
will start working with a minimum of 5 micro enterprises each and start applying
their learning’s. Besides turning the 275 enterprises into highly competitive
and stable enterprises, the inputs of the MECs will also be used for the larger
Micro enterprise programme.
