Kudumbashree

Launched by the Government of Kerala in 1998 for wiping out absolute poverty from the State through concerted community action under the leadership of Local Self Governments, Kudumbashree is today one of the largest women-empowering projects in the country. The programme has 41 lakh members and covers more than 50% of the households in Kerala. Built around three critical components, credit, entrepreneurship and empowerment, the Kudumbashree initiative has today succeeded in addressing the basic needs of the less privileged women, thus providing them a more dignified life and a better future. Literal meaning of Kudumbashree is prosperity (Shree) of family (Kudumbam).

Programs

NRO

In 2012, Ministry of Rural Development, Government of India recognized Kudumbashree’s potential to support other States by anointing it as a National Resource Organisation (NRO) under the National Rural Livelihood Mission (NRLM). As a NRO, Kudumbashree holds the mandate to partner with interested State Rural Livelihood Missions (SRLMs) and provide them with technical and implementation support.

NRLM

The core belief of National Rural Livelihoods Mission (NRLM) is that the poor have a strong desire and innate capabilities to come out of poverty. The challenge is to unleash their innate capabilities to generate meaningful livelihoods, which enable them to come out of poverty.

NULM

National Urban Livelihoods Mission (NULM), a centrally sponsored scheme has been launched in Kerala as a continuation to the erstwhile Swarna Jayanti Shahari Rozgar Yojana (SJSRY) to alleviate poverty and vulnerability of the urban poor.
